The Highland School District is seeking the input of parents in Ainsworth about the possible closure of Ainsworth Elementary. At their most recent meeting, the Highland School Board approved a survey that will be sent out to the parents of children attending the school. Superintendent Chris Armstrong worked with the board to devise the survey, which will be e-mailed to parents, as well as provided in paper form for those who don’t use e-mail. Armstrong says the purpose of the survey is to gauge the thinking of the people that would be most affected by the closure.

He says, “We’re going to basically ask two questions, and then give an opportunity for people to make additional comments. There is a lead paragraph helping the parents understand that no final decisions are made as of this time, and that the board will make the final decision at the February 13th board meeting. The board is just seeking feedback from the parents so they can make an informed decision.” The first question on the survey asks, if the district closed the Ainsworth school, will you have the district bus your children to Riverside Elementary, or will you transport them to another district? The second question asks, if the school were to close, what could the district do to make the transition easier? The surveys are due back to the school by Thursday, December 22nd.
