Washington has crews on standby this weekend should the weather call for snow plows to clean the streets. JJ Bell, City of Washington maintenance and construction superintendent, says there are a couple on call to salt the roads if needed and everyone is on call Sunday to plow snow if required. According to the city ordinance, they’re required to plow after two inches of snow accumulates on the streets. Bell says, residents are asked to try to park off the street if it snows. They plow the priority roads first and last.
He adds, if residents can “adopt a fire hydrant” during winter it’d be helpful to clear access to fire hydrants if they get covered in snow. This sometimes happens after the plows go by. Having easy access to the fire hydrants saves time for the fire department and Bell says it could save lives.
