Washington is hosting the season opener for the Demon bowling teams this afternoon.The Demons will entertain the Sigourney Savages in a non-conference meet at Lebowski’s Rock ‘N’ Bowl. When the two teams met last season in Washington the two Demon squads were victorious as the boys won, 2,459-2,030, while the girls recorded a 1,528-1,099 win.

Several familiar faces are back to lead Washington’s boys’ team, including three all-conference performers. Colin Zear, a first team all-Southeast conference bowler as a junior, dropped 3,275 pins last winter. His median score was 182 and he posted a game high of 223. Bailey Curtis and Kylan Gillette are back after earning second team all-conference honors last season. Curtis had the best showing by a Demon at last year’s state qualifying meet, placing second overall with a two-game score of 390. Gillette knocked down 2,909 pins last season.

The Washington girls’ bowling team has had eight girls at preseason practices. Last season, the squad filled only five of their six varsity spots. Seven of the eight players are freshmen. Sophomore Trista Kelly is the lone returner. She dropped 1,948 pins last season. Her average game score was 108 and she posted a high score of 136.

Sigourney’s in their second season of high school bowling. The boys’ team had two players sink over 2,000 pins last year. Parker Stevens led the squad with 2,166 pins, while Tanner Halleran dropped 2,145 pins. Jade Aller was Sigourney’s top girls’ bowler, dropping 969 pins.

First pins are set to drop at 3:30 p.m. at Lebowski’s Rock ‘N’ Bowl.
