While snow and ice have yet to fall in Washington this season, residents of Washington are reminded of the City’s ordinances regarding cleaning sidewalks. Steve Donnolly, building and zoning official for the City of Washington, says property owners and occupants have 24 hours once the snow or ice has stopped to clear the sidewalks. He advises there are many people in town who walk and the ordinance helps keep people safe. Also, when clearing sidewalks this winter, do not put snow or ice in the streets. If there is a sidewalk isn’t cleared, city staff will leave a reminder on the door to clean it. If it still isn’t done after that, the City can clear it and charge the property owner for the work. Anyone with questions is encouraged to contact Donnolly at City Hall.
