In Iowa this year there have been 352 traffic fatalities, 23.08% more than last year. Sixty-five of those have happened since October 1st. At this time last year there were 286 traffic fatalities in the state. Law enforcement agencies across the state are reminding everyone to wear their seat belt. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration wearing a seat belt can reduce the risk of a fatal injury by 45%. Also, remember click it or ticket, failing to buckle up is against the law and extra patrols are out during the holiday weekend looking for seat belt violations.
