An eight-win season and a three-way share of the district title landed several Lone Tree Lion football players on this year’s all-district squad. Eleven Lions players received recognition from the coaches of 8-Man District 4, including all of the team’s seniors.

Jovonte Squiers highlights Lone Tree’s postseason honorees as the district’s defensive most valuable player. Squiers forced eight turnovers as the Lions’ starting safety. He also scored two defensive touchdowns. His six interceptions are tied with Midland’s Connor Harms for the most in the district.

Michael Schmidt, Garrett Boxwell, and Drake Hotz join Squiers on the first-team all-district defense. Schmidt, the starting linebacker, led the team with 66.5 total tackles. Boxwell was a starting defensive lineman. His team-best 10 tackles for loss ranked fifth in the district. Boxwell also recovered two fumbles. Hotz was another starting linebacker for Lone Tree. He ranked second on Lone Tree’s squad in turnovers forced with three interceptions and two fumble recoveries. Hotz also posted 57.5 total tackles, the second-most on the squad.

Trey Pierson ended his high school football career as a first-team all-district quarterback. He recorded 1,240 yards of total offense (684 passing, 556 rushing) and 20 touchdowns. Dawson Swails is the team’s other first team all-district offensive player as a lineman.

Sam Fuhrmeister is the Lions’ lone second team all-district defensive performer as a linebacker. He tallied 24 total tackles and two tackles for loss. Tight end Brock Smith and lineman Wes Hotz represent Lone Tree on the second team all-district offense. Smith posted 172 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

Casey Shalla and Logan Carter are honorable mention all-district selections. Lone Tree ended their season with an overall record of 8-1, a two-win improvement from last year. The Lions missed the playoffs on a point differential tiebreaker with Midland and Iowa Valley. Lone Tree will lose Squiers, Schmidt, Boxwell, Drake Hotz, Swails, Fuhrmeister, Shalla, and Carter to graduation.
