A sixth straight winning season resulted in multiple all-district selections for the Washington Demon football team (6-3). Five Demons earned first team all-district honors. Five additional players were named second team all-district.
Bryce Sinn received Washington’s highest postseason accolade after being named the Class 3A District 5’s most valuable lineman. His four fumble recoveries topped the district. His nine sacks tied for the district lead with West Burlington’s Luke Shipley. Sinn’s 16 tackles for loss was the second most. He tallied 64 total tackles, tied for the third-best mark.
Seth Townsen, Tanner Murphy, Trey Van Weelden, and Javionn Willis join Sinn on the first-team all-district squad. Townsen was a two-way starter for the Demons across the offensive and defensive lines. His 12 tackles for loss and 31 solo tackles was the second most for Washington.
Murphy recorded 54 total tackles and five sacks, ranking second on the team. Murphy accumulated 120 yards of total offense as Washington’s third-string running back.
Van Weelden’s greatest impact came on special teams. He averaged a team-best 31 yards per kickoff return. He collected 14.5 total tackles, two tackles for loss, and an interception. He also tallied 66 rushing yards on four carries, scoring one touchdown.
Willis began the season as the Demons’ starting wide receiver and safety before switching to starting quarterback after week six. His eight receiving touchdowns tied Solon’s Trevor Nelson for the district lead. His team leading 462 yards receiving was the fourth most in the district. Willis accounted for 397 yards passing and had a 5-to-1 touchdown to interception ratio the final three games. Willis also made 10.5 total tackles and had one interception.
Ryan Reighard, Mitchell Huisenga, John Dillon, Karlton Skubal, and Aaron Vittetoe were named second team all-district performers. Washington finished the season with a 6-3 overall record, a one-win regression from last year. The Demons will graduate 17 seniors.
