The Clear Creek Amana football team enjoyed one of the most successful seasons in program history in 2016, finishing with a 7-2 overall record.
The Clippers set a school record for most wins to start a season, taking the first six games on their schedule before losing at Marion in overtime. That loss, and a tough road loss at Davenport Assumption 33-20 were enough to keep the Clippers out of the playoffs.
As a team the Clippers were sixth in the state with 11 interceptions on the year, and seventh in the state with 10 fumble recoveries, leaving CCA in the top 10 in class 3A for turnover margin.
Individually, Matt Brimeyer and Jared Eckrich led the way offensively, finishing sixth and seventh respectively in rushing yards in the district. Combining for 1,360 yards and 17 touchdowns on the ground. Ashton Carpenter ended the year with 265 yards passing, three touchdowns and three interceptions. Cory Siders led the Clipper receiving corps with 14 catches for 118 yards and a touchdown. Siders led the CCA defense and the district with six interceptions. Drake Mougin’s three fumble recoveries ranked him second in district play.
Despite missing the playoffs, the Clippers ended the season with a 42-6 win over Central DeWitt on Senior Night in Tiffin.
