The management of the pool by the YMCA will be revisited at tonight’s Washington City Council meeting. The YMCA had initially proposed a $30,000 management fee for next season, up from their $8,500 fee this year. The Park Board offered to cover the cost of chemicals and utilities but not pay a management fee to balance out the cost, which was initially turned down by the YMCA.
According to a memo from City Administrator Brent Hinson, an agreement has been reached where the City will assume the costs of Alliant utilities, approximately $18,900 per year, and pay a fixed $6,800 management fee. The YMCA will pay for chemicals, which costs about $6,800 per year. The changes will mean an overall increase of about $17,000 in City subsidy to the pool operations.
The council will consider this, along with a communications plan and finalizing the water main improvements project at the industrial park. The meeting begins at 6 p.m. in council chambers.
