The Lone Tree Lion football team will look to keep their perfect record intact when they travel to Marengo to face Iowa Valley in a district showdown tonight.

The Lions are 7-0 on the year and ranked No. 5 in the latest Associated Press 8-man football poll. The Lions were big winners a week ago, pounding Easton Valley 73-14. On the year, Lone Tree is led by Trey Pierson through the air, he is 22 of 38 for 442 yards, eight touchdowns and no interceptions. His favorite target is Jovonte Squiers with 11 catches for 237 yards and five scores. Drake Hotz leads the way on the ground with 746 yards on 71 carries and 12 touchdowns. The Lions have the state’s best scoring offense in 8-man play at 62 points per game, while surrendering just nine points per contest, fourth best in the state.

Iowa Valley comes into tonight with a 5-2 overall record. The Tigers blasted English Valleys last week by an 82-14 score. On the year, Iowa Valley is led by Jacob Krakow at 11 of 20 through the air for 150 yards, one touchdown and one interception. His favorite target is Garet Sims with 11 catches for 196 yards and one touchdown. On the ground Bennett Goettsch leads the way with 1,357 yards and 27 touchdowns on 175 rushes. His yardage and touchdown totals are best in the state in 8-man football.

These two teams last met in the first round of the playoffs in 2011 with Lone Tree taking a 49-7 win. Action begins tonight at 7:30 in Marengo.
