While official certified enrollment figures won’t be released until October 15th, at their most recent meeting, the Highland School Board went over their preliminary enrollment numbers. According to Business Manager Sue Rich, while not the final figure, the initial number of resident public students attending the district is 526. The number of resident public students attending another Iowa public school districts, meaning those that are open-enrolled to other districts, is 100.4. The decimal number indicates homeschooled students not enrolled in a full-time equivalent.
All total, the preliminary enrollment figure is 626.4 students for this year, which Rich said is an increase over last year, when they had 616.9. She believes this is a positive sign of growth in the district, though it’s still down from the 652 students they had for the 2014-15 school year. Rich emphasized these were just their initial numbers, and the official certified enrollment could possibly look different once the exact figures are made. However, these numbers give them a good initial estimate for what they can expect. The certified enrollment numbers directly correlate to how much money the district will receive from the state.
