A routine traffic stop led to the apprehension of 23-year-old Colton Gallup of Mt. Pleasant on felony drug charges. At approximately 6:30 a.m. Friday, September 30th, a Henry County Deputy Sheriff conducted a traffic stop on a black 1985 Chevy Suburban near the Mt. Pleasant Hy-Vee. The driver, 43-year-old Jeremy Crawford of Mt. Pleasant, was arrested for driving while suspended. Gallup was a passenger in the vehicle and fled on foot into the wooded area near the Mt. Pleasant Department of Corrections.
Gallup was apprehended as he was attempting to leave the area, and was found in possession of methamphetamine, prescription medications, and drug paraphernalia. He is being charged with possession of meth and possession of a controlled substance, both are class D felonies, and possession of drug paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor. He was also wanted for three other arrest warrants in Henry, Jefferson, and Des Moines Counties. Gallup is currently being held at the Henry County Jail on a $20,600 bond.
