The rushing attack of the Sigourney/Keota Cobras (3-0 overall) continued to be too much for opposing defenses to handle. The Cobras opened the Class 1A District 4 portion of their schedule in Riverside last Friday, squaring off against the Highland Huskies (2-1 overall). Sigourney/Keota ran for a season-high 346 yards and five touchdowns, propelling the Cobras to a 38-8 victory.

Sigourney senior Avery Moore collected a team-best 161 yards on 12 carries, scoring two touchdowns. Keota junior Luke Greiner and Sigourney sophomore Carson Crawford each tallied 91 yards on the ground. Greiner found the endzone twice, while Crawford crossed the goal line once. Sigourney/Keota has amassed 906 yards on the ground in three games, an average of 302 yards per game.

The Cobras’ defense forced five turnovers, intercepting three passes and recovering two fumbles. Luke Griener and Keota senior Cooper Greiner accounted for four of the five turnovers, making one interception and one fumble recovery each.

The win propels Sigourney/Keota to a 3-0 overall record and 1-0 in district play.
