On Saturday, September 10th, the United States Postal Service will hold a dedication ceremony at the Riverside Post Office to unveil new Star Trek stamps. In honor of the 50th anniversary of the original series’ debut, the USPS decided to create four Star Trek-themed stamps. Several people will give speeches at the event, including Steve Miller, who led the campaign for Riverside being the future birthplace of Captain James Kirk, Paul McCracken of the Riverside Area Community Club, Ken McCracken of the Star Trek Museum, and June Martindale of the USPS will also address the attendees.
Ken McCracken said the whole city is excited about the dedication, adding “That’s one of the most amazing things we could have ever had happen for us.” The event is open to the public and starts at 9 a.m., and people are encouraged to wear their Star Trek uniforms. There will be free refreshments and other activities including raffles, photo opportunities, and kids games. The stamps feature iconic Star Trek silhouettes against bright-colored backgrounds, and will be available for purchase at the event.
