The Mid-Prairie boys and girls cross country teams will be on the course for the first time in 2016 when they travel to Williamsburg tonight.

The Golden Hawks are coming off of a 2015 season that saw them win the state qualifier meet championships in both the boys and girls divisions for the first time in school history. At state a year ago the boys finished in fourth in class 2A led by Peyton Miller in 22nd place, the girls finished eighth with Anna Hostetler leading the way in 14th place. Along with Miller, the Golden Hawk boys return Floyd Evans, Marshal Teets, Brent Foster, Quinn Schmidt and David Fleming. Evans, Foster and Teets all competed at the state meet a year ago.

Along with Hostetler the Golden Hawk girls return, Abby Tornow, Greta Schmidt, Kessa Jones and Kate Cavanagh, all of whom ran at the state meet a year ago in Fort Dodge.

The Golden Hawks are again opening the season at Williamsburg as they have for the last three years. Mid-Prairie will be joined at the meet by Belle Plaine, Clear Creek Amana, HLV, Vinton-Shellsburg, Sigourney, Springville, Benton Community, Oskaloosa and Williamsburg.

Action begins this afternoon at 4:30 and continues into the evening at the Williamsburg Recreation Center.
