With FRYfest approaching, Steve Maxon and Doris Park of Max-Cast in Kalona are heading into the final stretch for the completion of a Hayden Fry statue that will be installed in Coralville. Park said all the pieces are cast, and the bottom half is welded together, though it still needs some touching up. While she said there’s still much left to do, she feels it’s coming together well and will be finished on time. They’ve worked with both the City of Coralville and the University of Iowa to get the details right and make sure it’s what they want.
She added it’s currently at the point where not much can go wrong, since they’re just welding all the pieces together. Once it’s complete and in Coralville, it won’t immediately go on its designated pedestal. Park says for the unveiling it will most likely be brought in on a cart, and the official installation will take place after FRYfest. Hayden Fry and his wife are likely to be in attendance at the unveiling, and Park is hopeful they will like his statue. The unveiling at FRYfest will be September 2nd at 10:30 a.m. in Coralville.
