Lightning, thunder and rain swept across Iowa overnight, causing flood watches and warnings to be issued. Just before midnight a wind gust of 38 miles per hour was recorded at the Washington Municipal Airport. According to a trained weather spotter, from 6 a.m. Thursday to 6 a.m. Friday 2.4 inches of rain fell in Wellman.
A flood warning was issued by the National Weather Service for the English River at Kalona until Sunday evening. As of 8 a.m. Friday, the English River at Kalona was at 11.7 feet, while flood stage there is 14 feet. The river is expected to rise above flood stage this evening and continue through Saturday morning up to 16 feet, causing moderate flooding. Listen to KCII for weather updates.
