In July, the city of Kalona played host to the 10 team Midwest Plains Regional 13 year old Babe Ruth Baseball tournament.

The field was comprised of teams from North Dakota, Missouri, Minnesota, Kansas and the host Tri-County South. Tri-County South went 0-4 in the tournament, falling to Boonville, Missouri 38-0, West Fargo, North Dakota 24-4, Fargo Babe Ruth 28-1 and St. Paul Hi Tower 23-0. West Fargo, North Dakota took the championship with a perfect 6-0 record. The 13 year old Babe Ruth World Series will be played this year in Ottumwa, Iowa.
