When the Washington County Riverboat Foundation was awarding their recent mini-grants, it included a $1,900 grant to the Kalona Historical Society. Director Nancy Roth said the money will be going toward repairs to the handicap ramp attached to the Wall House, as well as the Joetown Well next to it. Both were moved from Joetown in 1940, and were in dire need of repairs. Thanks to the WCRF grant, Roth said the historical society will only have to put up around $400 of their own money to fully fund the project. The repairs will take place as soon as the weather is ideal for the construction to proceed, and it’s estimated to take three or four days to be completed.
