Another 20-win season for the Highland Huskies softball team (20-10 overall) garnered several postseason honors from the coaches of the Southeast Iowa Super Conference. Eight Huskies softball players earned All-Conference recognitions.
Highland junior Kelsey Hora was the lone unanimous first-team all conference selection for the Huskies. Hora tops the Southeast Iowa Super Conference in hits (62), and stolen bases (33). She also ranked second in the conference in triples (5), runs scored (43), batting average (.585), and on base percentage (.611).
Cheyann Adamson concludes her high school career on the first-team all-conference squad as a catcher. Adamson led the league in triples (6), ranked second in runs batted in (41), and fifth in runs scored (37).
Freshman Kylie Wood represents Highland on the first team all-conference crew as an infielder. Wood posted a .438 batting average, driving in 10 runs and scoring 18 more. As the team’s starting second baseman, she committed six errors in 86 changes, a fielding percentage of .930.
Eighth grader Haley Sweeting rounds out Highland’s first team all-conference performers as a utility player. Sweeting started the year coming off the bench as a pinch runner. Sweeting was the Huskies’ starting designated hitter for the final 13 games of the season, posting a .385 batting average with six runs batted in and eight others scored.
Freshmen Megan Hoenig, Aly Stokes, and Abbie Miller earned spots on the second-team all-conference squad. Hoenig appeared in 21 games in the circle, posting a 15-5 record with a 2.42 earned run average, striking out 73 batters in her first varsity season. Stokes transitioned into the Huskies’ starting shortstop, posting a .333 batting average with 17 runs driven in and scoring 28 others. Miller started the season as the Huskies’ starting catcher, switching to third base mid-way through the season. She hit .316 with a home run, 26 runs batted in, recording six doubles and 18 runs scored.
Sophomore Brylee Carolan was the Huskies’ lone all-conference honorable mention selection.
Highland finishes the season with a 20-10 overall record. The Huskies lose Adamson to graduation.
