A two-year winless drought came to an end Monday for the Columbus Wildcat baseball team (1-15 overall).The Wildcats welcomed the Holy Trinity Catholic Crusaders (1-16 overall) to Columbus Junction Monday night for a Southeast Iowa Super Conference game. Columbus erased a three-run deficit, snapping a 46-game losing streak with a 6-5 triumph over HTC.
Junior Ruben Paz scored three of Columbus’ six runs, stealing two bases as a courtesy runner. Senior Brodrick Wittmann collected two hits in four plate appearances, driving in a pair of runs. Junior Eric Reese earned the win on the mound, throwing all seven innings. Reese allowed five runs, three earned, on six hits, walking seven and striking out six.
The Wildcats resume regular season play tonight, hosting the Cardinal Comets (7-11 overall) in a Southeast Iowa Super Conference contest.
