Drought conditions in Iowa have increased from last week to this week. According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, last week 14.4% of Iowa was abnormally dry and now 26.9% of the state is in the same category. The dry portion of the state is the southeast quarter, spread across 37 counties, including Washington County. At this time last year less than half a percent of the state was abnormally dry.
