The competition week became more eventful for the Washington Demon softball team (3-14 overall). Head softball coach Ben Obermann told KCII Sports Tuesday morning of a change to his team’s regular season schedule, adding a pair of non-conference games tonight versus the West Burlington Falcons (5-14 overall) at Washington’s softball field.
The Demons and Falcons met over the weekend in the consolation bracket of the Fairfield softball tournament. Washington won the matchup, 10-5. Senior Mackenzie Knutson accounted for half of the Demons’ runs, driving in two and scoring three others. Eighth grader Alexis Mitchel earned her first varsity win on the mound, scattering four hits over 2.2 innings pitched, allowing zero runs in relief.
The Falcons are looking for their first non-conference victory of the season, posting an 0-8 record against teams outside of the Southeast Iowa Super Conference.
The doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. tonight at Washington’s softball field.
