No. 1 in class 2A Iowa City Regina swept the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks in a River Valley Conference doubleheader Tuesday night at Carr, Vincent Gould Field in Kalona.
In a pair of games heard on AM and FM KCII, in game one the Regals got the win 10-0. Regina jumped out early against the Hawks and starter Cassidy Rourke, scoring three times in the first and three more in the second to build a 6-0 lead. Mid-Prairie got one hit in the game off of Regina starter Sarah Lehman, a sixth inning Alex Rath single to right field. Regina tacked on four more insurance runs in their final at bat to finish out the win. Rourke took the loss for Mid-Prairie she went all seven innings, giving up 10 runs and seven hits.
In game two the Regals were winners 9-2. Regina again got on the board early with a run in their first at bat but the Hawks answered with an Amber Kral sac fly to right that drove in Rath to tie the score at one after one inning. In the second the Golden Hawks saw Regina score five times, all with two outs to stretch their lead to 6-1 and run starter Kirsten Duwa from the game. Rourke entered the game in relief and surrendered a pair of runs in the fourth and one more in the fifth as the Regals built a 9-1 lead. Ali Naylor added a Golden Hawk highlight in the fifth smacking a no doubt solo home run. Duwa took the loss in the circle for Mid-Prairie she went 1 2/3 innings giving up eight hits and six runs.
With the pair of losses Mid-Prairie falls to 7-11 on the year.
