Washington junior Zach Londberg celebrated his 17th birthday in winning fashion Wednesday. The Demon baseball team (6-2 overall) made the trip to Veterans Memorial Stadium in Cedar Rapids, battling the Highland Huskies (3-3 overall) in a non-conference contest. Londberg pitched a complete game, earning his second victory of the season by a score of 6-1.
Washington compiled 10 hits, three going for extra bases. Junior Dakota Kron collected three hits and scored three runs. Junior Michael Gier drove in four runs on a pair of hits, plating two on a triple in the fourth and the other two on a single in the sixth.
Londberg recorded all 21 outs on the mound, allowing one unearned run on three hits, walking one and striking out five. He helped himself at the plate, reaching base twice and driving in a run on a sixth inning double.
Washington improves to 6-2 overall, matching their win total from last season. The Demons return to the diamond today, traveling to Fairfield for a Southeast Conference doubleheader against the Trojans (4-2 overall).
