The Washington County Conservation Department has a busy summer ahead of them. Among the many projects they have in store are improvements to Foster Woods and Foster Pond. The Foster Woods project is a long-term project, according to Conservation Director Steve Anderson. He explained the pond has had issues with winter kill, and that comes from there not being enough sunlight or air movement in the area. They’re currently in the planning phase, but Anderson feels they’re moving forward, adding, “I guess it took 50 years to get it this way, so it’ll take a little while to get it fixed.”

Meanwhile, Foster Pond has been having outlet issues they’re working to address. The problem stems from some of the water leaving the pond going around its drainage pipe, instead of through it. Anderson assures everyone that in spite of the issue, there’s been no shortage of visitors. He said the pond has great fishing right now for bluegills and crappies, and people have been enjoying the pond.

This time of the year is very busy for the Conservation Department, and Anderson asks everyone to have patience with the maintenance projects.
