The road to the state soccer tournament in Des Moines begins next week for the Washington Demon boys’ and girls’ soccer teams.

The Demon boys’ soccer team (2-8 overall) has been placed in the Class 2A Substate 4 bracket, matching up with the Fairfield Trojans (6-5 overall) in the quarterfinal round. The winner of the match will face the Fort Madison Bloodhounds (13-1 overall) next Wednesday.The two squads have met once already this season, a 9-0 victory for Fairfield at Washington High School on April 14th. The Trojans have been average since their victory over Washington, compiling a 4-4 overall record in their last eight matches. The final Southeast Conference match between Washington and Fairfield takes place tomorrow at Trojan Stadium.

The Demon girls’ soccer team (0-10 overall) begins their playoff run in the Class 2A Region 5 bracket, squaring off against the Oskaloosa Indians (8-5 overall). The winner will travel to Tiffin for a game with the Clear Creek Amana Clippers (12-3 overall). Washington traveled to Oskaloosa for a match on May 2 and the Indians applied the 10-goal mercy rule on the Demons. Washington’s latest match came Tuesday at home versus the Centerville Redette (1-9 overall). The Demons lost  by a score of 3-2 and will host the Fairfield Trojans tomorrow afternoon at Washington High School.
