Emergency crews responded to a single-vehicle rollover accident with people trapped and injured south of Kalona Sunday evening. At 7:58 p.m., emergency personnel were notified of a 2001 Ford Explorer rolling and coming to rest on its top in the 1200 block of Maple Avenue. According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Paul Wittke of Kalona was driving at the time and was not wearing a seat belt and there were three passengers. Wittke and passenger Angela Taff were transported by Washington County Ambulance to the University of Iowa Hospitals. The other passengers in the vehicle were Kristopher Fondren and Dusty Knepp, both of Kalona.
Kalona Fire Department, Kalona QRS, Washington County Ambulance, and Washington County Sheriff’s Office were called to the scene. Also, Aircare was notified but disregarded. Charges are pending for failure to maintain control and no proof of insurance.
