The lone senior on the Washington Demon boys’ golf team had a stellar week at his home course. The Washington Demon boys’ golf team hosted the annual Washington Invite golf tournament Saturday at the Washington Golf and Country Club. The five team tournament included golfers from Columbus, Decorah, Fort Madison, and Mount Pleasant.

Decorah edged Washington by one shot, taking the tournament championship with 308 strokes. Washington’s final score of 309 was the best 18-hole showing for the boys’ golf team in four seasons. Mount Pleasant finished in a distant third with 354 strokes, followed by Fort Madison with 355 and Columbus rounded out the scoring with a team score of 413.

Demon senior Derek Anding carded his career-best 18 hole score, shooting an even par 70. He finished the meet as the runner up medalist, bested only by Decorah senior Sam Sacquitne, who chipped in for birdie on the final hole to earn medalist honors. Anding’s tournament performance came five days after he posted a one under 34 during a Southeast Conference triangular Tuesday against Fairfield and Fort Madison, earning him medalist honors at the event.

The other scores for Washington included sophomore Jacob Van Osdol recording an eight over 78, junior Tanner Coleman shooting a 10 over 80, and sophomore Dalton Myers rounding it out with an 11 over 81.

The Demon boys’ golf team returns to competition tomorrow afternoon, traveling to Oskaloosa for an 18-hole tournament at the Edmundson Golf Course. Washington will compete against golfers from Fairfield, Grinnell, Mount Pleasant, Norwalk, Oskaloosa, Pella Community, Williamsburg, Winterset, and Newton.
