The federal deadline to file income taxes is tomorrow – Monday, April 18th. The date changed from April 15th due to Emancipation Day being observed Friday in Washington, D.C. Bob Preston with H&R Block in Washington and Sigourney says if you don’t have all of your documents ready you should get your extension filed as soon as possible to avoid penalties. Also, he says many people also don’t realize the importance of itemizing deductions. While itemizing doesn’t help everyone on their federal return, it often makes a difference on state returns. The tax deadline this year is April 18.
