Wednesday night the Washington School Board will consider the budget for fiscal year 17. A public hearing will be held during the meeting regarding the proposed budget. The proposed tax rate per $1,000 taxable valuation is $15.85348. This is an increase of $1.35 per $1,000, due in part to the Stewart project that was approved by voters last June, declining enrollment, early retirement and low supplemental state aid. The House and Senate have approved a 2.25% increase, but it has yet to be approved by Governor Terry Branstad. In addition, the board will consider a resolution authorizing the issuance of bonds. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. at Washington Community School District’s Central Office.
