A forcasted winter storm has pushed up the date for this week’s Washington Relays. The original date for the Demon boys’ track team’s annual meet was set for Thursday afternoon, but the Accuweather forecast for Washington has the potential for snow that morning and a high only reaching 37 degrees. Washington Community Schools moved the meet to tomorrow afternoon with field events beginning at 3:30 p.m. and running events starting at 4.
Washington boys’ track coach Steve Roth joined the JET Physical Therapy Radio Coaches Corner Saturday morning to preview the annual event, saying several area teams were scheduled to take part in the relays. Among the teams who were planning on being at Case Field Thursday includes: Burlington, Cedar Rapids Prairie, Columbus, Danville, Eddyville-Blakesburg, Fairfield, Fort Madison, Highland, Iowa City High, Iowa City West, Keota, Mediapolis, Mid Prairie, Mount Pleasant, WACO, Wapello, and West Burlington. It is unclear at this time how many teams will be affected by moving the meet to earlier in the week.
This is a developing story and KCII Sports will have more information when it becomes available.
