Many spouses and children become caregivers for loved ones. Susan Wellington, marketing director at Halcyon House in Washington, shares they host a monthly support group meeting for caregivers in the area and it is open to the public. She adds many of those are helping loved ones who have a form of dementia. Welling adds it’s important for caregivers to have a network of support.
Many of those who attend are helping with someone who is dealing with memory loss or dementia. Alzheimer’s is the sixth leading cause of death in Iowa and 13% of seniors in Iowa have Alzheimer’s disease, according to the Alzheimer’s Association.
The meeting will be held Thursday (3/17) at 2 p.m. in the Applewood Bistro of Halcyon House and is open to the public. The support group is facilitated by Bonnie Boshart and Wellington.
