The first outdoor track meets of the season are still two weeks away, but an unseasonably warm start to the month of March has area track teams getting outside earlier than normal. KCII Sports talked to 13 area track coaches on this week’s JET Physical Therapy Radio Coaches corner, and all said they have taken advantage of being outside in the mild conditions.
The Washington Demon boys’ and girls’ track teams spent most of last week practicing at Case Field rather than running up and down the hallways of the high school. Demon boys’ track coach Steve Roth said on Saturday’s season preview show that he is so pleased with the weather, the team has cancelled their annual trip to the Central Indoor Meet this week in favor of extra practice for the outdoor season. The outdoor season for Washington begins March 24 with the Demon Relays.
The Demon girls’ track team will compete in one more indoor meet before transitioning to their outdoor season. Washington will make the trip to Pella Saturday to compete in the Central Indoor Meet.
