An awareness presentation about human trafficking will be held in Washington tomorrow. Chad Ellis, an investigator with the Washington County Sheriff’s Department, and Makenzie Crull, Washington and Van Buren County Coordinator for the Rape Victim Advocacy Program, will speak at the Washington Public Library.

Earlier in this legislative session State Senator Kevin Kinney, a former investigator for the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, introduced a bill to establish a task force in Iowa to fight human trafficking across the state. He shared in his time with the sheriff’s office he worked on local cases, including the first case prosecuted in Iowa which started in Cosgrove and was connected to Washington County. Also, the last sting he worked on with the department was in Hills.

The American Association of University Women Washington Branch is hosting Tuesday’s presentation regarding human trafficking awareness, which begins at 7 p.m.
