The Sigourney Police Department will be fingerprinting Sigourney elementary students in kindergarten through second grade. The fingerprinting would be used to assist in identifying children if they were to go missing. Sigourney Police Chief Allan Glandon says fingerprinting is often needed to give a positive identification. This allows parents to keep information to help authorities in the event of a missing child situation. The department does not keep this information.
The Sigourney Elementary School has sent a copy of the fingerprint card home with students. Parents need to fill out the card with the child’s information and sign the permission portion if they wish to have their child fingerprinted. All of the time and materials used for the fingerprinting will be donated by the Sigourney Police Department, Sigourney Lions Club, Keokuk County Sheriff’s Department and Keokuk County Ambulance Service. The fingerprinting will take place February 29th. Glandon says the department would like to bring this service to the community every two years.
