The Riverside City Council continued awarding grants to local clubs and organizations this week with funds from the hotel/motel tax. The council awarded $15,000 to the Riverside History Center. Mayor Allen Schneider says, the grant was a way of reaffirming support of the history center and to assist with on-going costs of operation. The council also awarded $26,000 to the Riverside Community Club. Schneider says the funds will be used for events throughout the year including Trekfest. The 32nd annual event will take place June 24th and 25th.

The hotel/motel tax was implemented in 2006 with a seven percent tax on hotel rooms in Riverside. Riverside City Clerk Lory Young says the tax brings in about $180,000 per year in revenue to the city.
