The Washington Demon basketball teams dropped a Southeast Conference doubleheader in Keokuk Friday.

In the girls’ game, the Demons (7-9 overall) went toe-to-toe with the No. 4 Chiefs (14-1 overall) for three quarters, trailing 14-11 at halftime and 29-25 in the third quarter. Keokuk outscored Washington 21-9 in the fourth quarter, pulling away with a 51-34 victory. Five Demons scored five or more points last night, led by sophomore Sarah Nacos with nine points. Addie Pacha scored all eight of her points in the second half. Senior Amber Salow chipped in six points, while senior McKayla Miller and sophomore Brooke Stout each added five points. The loss drops Washington to 7-9 overall, and will return to action Tuesday evening in Bloomfield, battling the Davis County Mustangs.

The boys’ contest saw Keokuk’s lead grow from 19-12 in the first quarter to a 41-21 halftime advantage. Washington left the tri-states border with a 79-50 loss. Senior Derek Anding scored a game-high 26 points, while senior Jack Giardino added nine points in the setback. The loss drops Washington to 5-11 overall, and return to Southeast Conference action next Friday at Fort Madison.
