Property owners in the City of Washington are reminded they are responsible for keeping sidewalks free of ice and snow. Public sidewalks should be clear of all snow and ice accumulation within 24 hours after the snow has stopped falling or ice has formed. Steve Donnolly, building and zoning official for the City, tells KCII News it is a safety issue. If the sidewalks aren’t cleared in a timely manner, the City posts door hangers asking residents to clean them. Donnolly says they work with property owners to get this done. After the notification, if it still isn’t taken care of the City will clear it and assess the cost to the property owner.
