The West Branch boys basketball team completed a season sweep of the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks on Friday night, winning in Wellman 58-46.

In a game heard on KCII, the Bears started out hot, holding a 15-5 lead over Mid-Prairie at the end of the first quarter despite losing their top two scorers early to foul trouble. The Golden Hawks hung around in the second quarter, climbing back within three before an Alex Hamer three point play in the final seconds of the frame gave West Branch a 22-16 lead at the half. In the third quarter Mid-Prairie continued to chip away and got even with the Bears at 25 midway through the frame. West Branch held a slim 29-28 lead with two minutes remaining in the third when they exploded, going on a 19-2 run that spanned the rest of the third and the first half of the fourth quarter. Mid-Prairie would not get closer than 11 points down the stretch.

In the loss the Golden Hawks, without the services of Caleb Statler or Ben Stone due to illness, were led by Nolan Faselt with 12 points, Derek Rich added 10. Mid-Prairie is now 0-11 overall and 0-10 in conference play. Mid-Prairie travels to Bellevue Saturday afternoon.
