The long holiday break for the Washington Demon bowling teams is scheduled to come to an end tomorrow. The Demons, who haven’t bowled in regular season competition since December 19, resume action Saturday afternoon at Flamingo Lanes in Fairfield.
Washington’s boys’ bowling squad (3-1 overall) came away with three wins in four competitions to end 2015, including a Southeast Conference triumph over last year’s state qualifiers the Mount Pleasant Panthers (2-1 overall). Junior Colin Zear has dropped the most pins, sinking 1050 in six games bowled. Three others are less than 50 away from 1,000, including junior Kylan Gillette (978), and sophomores Tucker Renoux (966), and Bailey Curtis (961).
Fairfield enters tomorrow’s league battle with a 2-2 overall record. Junior Kyle Ruckman is the Trojans’ standout bowler, sinking 2122 pins in 10 games. His average score is 212 points out of a possible 300.
The Demon girls’ bowling team (1-3 overall) has lost three of their four meets. Their one win came during the season opener December 9 versus Sigourney, a 1528-1099 over the Savages. Three athletes are closing in on 700 total pins. Sophomore Anna Marie Walter has dropped 691, the most among the crew. Seniors Erin Bailey (647) and Cheyenne Gillette (641) are just shy of 650 pins.
The Trojan girls’ bowling team (3-1 overall) has won three of their first four meets of the season, including a 2,190-1,135 triumph over the Sigourney Savages last week. Junior Sara Trent has dropped the most pins this year for Fairfield, recording 1,685.
Conference bowling action begins at 1:30 p.m. tomorrow at Flamingo Lanes.
