A Crawfordsville project was selected for Surface Transportation Program fund, or STP, applications. Tuesday morning, with a vote of 4-1, the Washington County Board of Supervisors approved funding the project in Crawfordsville. The City of Riverside had requested using some of these funds for work on Highway 22 through the town. County supervisor Jack Seward said these funds are typically used for county roads. Jacob Thorius, Washington County Engineer said, the only reason the Riverside project was eligible was because of the DOT overlay work proposed on Highway 22. The work in Riverside that was proposed was also for parking along the road. The Crawfordsville work will only include road work. Supervisor Bob Yoder was the lone nay vote.
The board approved giving all of the 2017 to 2020 STP funds for the county project on Vine Avenue, or Old Highway 218, from the area of 282nd Street through Crawfordsville to the area south of 320th, where the road ends. Thorius adds the overall cost of the project is estimated at $1.7 million and they’re seeking to use $1.36 million of STP funds on the project.
