The Washington Demons’ three archery teams all competed recently in the Mount Vernon Invitational, and each squad came away with a second place finish.

Washington’s High School Archery team recorded 3,218 points during the first shoot of the new year, 38 points behind Mount Vernon for the tournament championship. Junior John Sands posted Washington’s best individual score, scoring 282 out of a possible 300 points. He recorded the seventh best boys’ score out of 205 participants. Senior Jade Wells was Washington’s top girl performer, recording 275 points. She posted the seventh best girls’ score among the 146-member field.

The middle school team left the shoot with 3,101 points, bested only by the host school Mount Vernon by 124 points. Eighth grader Johnathan Bartholomew was the Demons’ top junior high’s archer, placing fourth overall with a 276.

One Lincoln elementary archer placed first individually in her field. Fifth grader Allison Rees shot a 274, posting 16 bulleyes, capturing first place in the 34-member elementary girl field. The grade schoolers posted 2,604 points, 340 points behind Mount Vernon for the championship.

Washington’s hosting their first archery shoot of the season this weekend. First flights begin at 9 a.m. Saturday at Washington Middle School.
