Today, December 15th, is the final day to sign up for health insurance and have coverage starting January 1st. The fee for not having health insurance in 2016 will be $695 per adult or 2.5 percent of your household’s income, whichever is higher. The fee increases by $370, from last year’s $325 penalty.

According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in Iowa, 85 percent of consumers who were signed up qualified for an average tax credit of $260 per month through the Marketpalce. Nearly 14,000 people under 35 signed up for Marketplace coverage in the Hawkeye State.
