Parking fines in the City of Washington are likely to go up, as the council approved the first reading of an ordinance more than doubling the fees. The council amended the ordinance, so parking tickets will now be $20, up from $5. After 30 days the cost will increase to $25. The original ordinance proposed a $50 fee on snow emergency routes, City Administrator Brent Hinson explained Washington does not currently have emergency snow routes. The council struck the portion of the proposed ordinance about the snow route fee. A second and third reading will be held before the adoption of the ordinance.
