The Washington City Council applauded the work the YMCA has done in managing the Steele Family Aquatic Center. At the recommendation of the Park Board, the council approved increasing the management fee from $7,000 to $8,5000. The city owns the facility but the YMCA manages operations including lifeguards. Becky Harkema, director of the YMCA, explained with this partnership there are many people who lifeguard year-round and it has allowed the YMCA to hire an aquatics director.

The council also approved raising the season pass rates $5 for both single and family passes.
