The Mid-Prairie and Keota boys basketball teams faced off Monday night in the Mid-Prairie boys basketball jamboree at Tim Grady Gymnasium in Wellman.

The Golden Hawks took the tightly contested game 26-25. It was Keota that jumped out to the early lead as the Golden Hawks struggled from the field early. Keota built an eight point lead midway through the first quarter at 14-6 before the Hawks began to chip away. The Eagles led by six at the end of the first period. In the second Mid-Prairie focused on getting the ball inside to 6’8″ center Caleb Statler. Statler rose to the challenge, scoring 12 of Mid-Prairie’s first 18 points.

Statler’s 12 points led all Golden Hawks while Ben Stone added 10 for Mid-Prairie. Keota was led by eight points from Cole Stout. Mid-Prairie is next in action Friday night at Iowa Mennonite School for a Hall of Pride Game, the Golden Hawks officially open the season on Tuesday when they host Tipton. Keota will next be in action Monday when they take on Lone Tree.
