The annual trapping season is underway across Iowa. This is yet another area in which Iowa ranks high, nationwide the Hawkeye state is in the top five in fur harvesting.

Chad Dolan, Fisheries Biologist at Lake Darling State Park, says according to population surveys done by the DNR, this years season should be good, as populations are high, with the exceptions of skunk, mink and red fox.

Dolan says a variety of traps are used, including live traps, snares and foot traps, adding more and more trappers are using dog proof traps. A separate fur harvesting license is required. Trapping season continues through the end of January.
