Washington’s Local Emergency Planning Committee discussed planning and training at their meeting Friday. The LEPC includes members from Washington County Ambulance, area law enforcement, public health officials, elected officials, the county engineer and Emergency Management Coordinator Larry Smith. Smith explained in federal fiscal year 2016, LEPC has approximately $1,400 for training and about $2,600 for planning. Smith is looking into reviewing policy and doing a commodity flow study, which analyzes what chemicals and products are being transported through Washington County. Information is already received regarding the railroads, but it would study road traffic. By knowing what is coming through the area emergency responders can be better prepared for situations.
