Ten games into the 2015 football season the Winfield-Mount Union football team (10-0 overall) hasn’t felt the pain of defeat. The squad is hoping tonight won’t be the night they suffer their first loss, hosting the Lynnville-Sully Hawks (7-3 overall) in the second round on the Class A playoffs.
W-MU has scored multiple touchdowns in all three phases of the football game in 2015. W-MU’s offense has scored 67 touchdowns, with three players scoring 10 or more touchdowns. Kolt Rossister has scored 21 touchdowns, 16 of which were passing touchdowns. Senior Darren Hunter has scored 16 touchdowns, 15 rushing. Junior Bryce Robinson has scored 15 touchdowns, 11 on the ground.
The Wolves’ defense has scored five touchdowns off of their 27 forced turnovers, and brought back two punt returns for touchdowns.
W-MU advanced to the round of 16 after a 38-0 victory over the North Linn Lynx. It was the fourth shutout posted by the W-MU defense this season.
Lynnville-Sully has been playing better football of late. Since losing 44-0 to No.1 B.G.M on October 2, the Hawks has rattled off four straight wins. Lynnville-Sully have outscored their opponents 181-48. Sage Ehresman leads the Hawks offense, rushing for 1169 yards and 21 touchdowns.
The two teams have one opponent in common on their schedules. Each team narrowly beat the Pekin Panthers. W-MU survived Pekin, 16-12, in the final regular season game on Oct 23. Lynnville-Sully outlasted the Panthers, 36-34, in the first round of the playoffs last Wednesday.
